What do Governors do?

Governors are the heart of our school leadership. Their responsibilities include:

The performance of federation schools.

The future development of the federation.

Managing the schools budgets within the federation.

Appointing staff.

The federations provision for pupils.

The governing board has chosen to delegate some functions, as set out in the scheme of delegation, to the Headteachers and Executive Leadership Team. For example, the Executive Leadership Team has responsibility for monitoring the quality of teaching and learning and the progress of all students within federation schools. However, governors remain responsible for setting the ethos, culture and strategic direction for the federation.
The Governors carry out their responsibilities by meeting each half term throughout the academic year.
Governors can take part in all aspects of school life and can decide how much to be involved through the Link Governor role. Being a Governor is very rewarding:

Making a positive difference to how well the federation operates.

Seeing how your efforts help raise standards and achievement.

Helping federation schools to be a bigger part of our community.

Learning new skills, enhance your cv and realise your potential.

Having an impact on childrens lives.

Ensure that every child matters.

Training and Support

There is a great deal of support for Governors, new and experienced. There is a full induction process, including meeting the Headteacher and having a tour of the school. If you wish, another member of the Governing Board will act as your mentor. The Federation accesses governor training from City of York Council.  This includes live online workshops and modular sessions accessed via Learning Link.  This package is funded by the Federation. Courses can encourage your development as a Governor. Attendance at forums are useful for increasing your knowledge in specific areas and networking with other local Governors. The Governing Board is skills based to ensure a broad and balanced Governing Board, and is made up as follows:

1x Local Authority Governor.

1x Staff Governor.

2x Headteacher Governors.

2x Parent Governors.

4x Co-opted Governors.
